What is GMO?
A GMO is a genetically modified organism: a plant, animal, or microorganism that is created by adding DNA of other organisms to it. GMO appeared at the end of the 1980s as a means of increasing crop yields to feed the earth’s growing population.
There are no direct proofs of either harm or harmlessness of GM products for human beings; however, at present, an EU directive officially forbids 3 kinds of antibiotic-resistant GMO. Also, as a result of many studies with animals in Russia and abroad, scientists are increasingly concluding that the influence of all GM products is harmful to experimental animals’ health (deterioration of immunity, wide range of diseases). Moreover, scientists believe that the increase in oncological diseases, obesity, and allergic reactions registered at last decade is tied to the use of transgenics in food.
The main consumers of Orion products are children, and that is why we consider it our duty to carefully control all steps of production from buying raw materials to product packaging. Therefore Orion was the one of the first companies to voluntarily undergo GMO-free certification for all of its products produced in Russia.
